A symbolic presentation of the items was done at Comesa Hall in Blantyre on Monday when PCL and its subsidiary companies gathered to commemorate the World Aids day. PCL Group Chief Executive Officer Matthews Chikaonda said they decided to make the donation to BAHASI as one way of encouraging them for the role they play in fighting against the scourge. “I want to thank BAHASI for the good work that they do in looking after the orphans and people living with the virus. They are doing a commendable work and if we all join hands we can achieve the zero new infections, zero discrimination and zero HIV/AIDS related deaths,” said Chikaonda. Among the items that were donated include Catering pots, Ingredient Bin, mugs, muck buckets with ropes, multi plastic plates, bucket with tap, plastic lichelo, 5 bales of brown sugar, 24 bags of 50kgs of cream of maize flour and 10 bags of 10 kgs cream of maize flour. BAHASI which started its operations in 2004 runs a nursery school for the vulnerable children and Orphans as well as a support group of individuals who have declared their HIV status. It also offers home based care by giving support to HIV victims like cleaning their surroundings and referring them to hospital for treatment. BAHASI is currently constructing a hostel to accommodate orphans and vulnerable children. |
